The dark blue color of O3 is important because it arises from the intense absorption of red and ultraviolet (UV) fight. This is the mechanism by which ozone in the atmosphere (the ozone layer) protects Earth from the Sim s UV radiation. After F2, ozone is the most powerful oxidant of all the elements.
