In a variety of systems, electron transfer between species stacked within the DNA helix proceeds over exceptionally long distances. These reactions can also occur on ultrafast timescales. Studies reveahng the charge-transport properties of DNA have also illustrated the importance of a collection of parameters that modulate electron transfer in ways that are unique to this system.
