Typical surface distresses in flexible pavements

All types of surface distresses occurring in flexible pavements can be classified into four categories cracking, distortion, disintegration and loss of skid resistance. 

A detailed description of all abovementioned distresses along with the possible causes and treatments is given below. It should be stressed that for applying the most appropriate treatment-maintenance procedure, the determination of the exact cause(s) of distress, among other things, is of vital importance.
