Types of Mission and Vision Statements

Mission statements generally fall into two categories. The first is a simple statement that clearly describes a desired state of affairs. This type of mission statement, in most cases a short phrase or sentence that is easy to remember, is one that many people refer to as a vision statement. The second type of mission statement is more elaborate and includes a statement of purpose. It also usually describes the products or services provided by the organization, often with details about aspects of the desired process for producing those products or services.
