Types environmental resistance affected

Type II diabetes is characterized by insulin deficiency combined with an increased resistance to insulin by the peripheral tissues. It appears to be a disease of ageing. As we get older, beta cells become less efficient and sensitivity to insulin decreases. Many genetic and environmental factors affect the incidence of type II diabetes, for example nutrition, birthweight, obesity and physical activity. [Pg.84]

There have been many accidental spills of chlorpyrifos, but little quantitative assessment of its environmental effects. One exception is a spill in April 1985 in England (Boreham and Birch 1987). In that instance, a truck overturned, spilling 205 L chlorpyrifos into an adjacent stream that drained into the Roding River. A resulting sharp decrease in the number and type of macroinvertebrate benthic organisms in affected parts of the river, compared to unaffected areas, lasted 6 months. In addition, certain chlorpyrifos-resistant benthic organisms were unusually abundant. [Pg.896]

Chemical resistance is similarly affected by curing agent type and the temperature of the cure. Moisture, solvent, and general chemical resistance are usually superior for epoxy adhesives that are cured at elevated temperatures. Room temperature epoxy adhesives, having a lower glass transition temperature, are more severely affected by environmental exposures. [Pg.207]

Wood and plastic building materials resist many of the natural and industrial environmental factors that affect concrete, masonry, and metals. However, wood and plastic are susceptible to other types of attack—fungi and insects can destroy wood, and nltraviolet fight and temperature can affect some plastics. [Pg.825]
