Twaddell Hydrometer. This hydrometer, which is used only for liquids heavier than water, has a scale such that when the reading is multiplied by 5 and added to 1000 the resulting number is the specific gravity with reference to water as 1000. To convert specific gravity at 60°/60°F to Twaddell degrees, take the decimal portion of the specific gravity value and multiply it by 200 thus a specific gravity of 1.032 = 0.032 X 200 = 6.4° Tw. See also special table for conversion to density and Baume scale. [Pg.142]

This table gives the relation between density (c.g.s.) and degrees on the Baume and Twaddell scales. The Twaddell scale is never used for densities less than unity. See also Sec. 2.1.2.1, Hydrometers. [Pg.159]

A scale for expressing the specific gravity of liquids, named after William Twaddell, whereby 200 degrees Twaddell equates to a sg of 1. [Pg.68]

Soaps bv the Cold Procesb.—All the foregoing soaps are made by boiling the fat stock with alkali hut toilet Boap may also be made extemporaneously without much heat and ihe so-called little pan process. Many of the French and American perfumers manufacture their soaps in that way. The lies are necessarily very strong, and should be of 66° Twaddell. Cold soaps are very white, and also very hard, as they do not contain any excess of water.. ... [Pg.678]

Almond Soap.—Genuine almond soap is made from oil of sweet almonds, fifty pounds and soda lie of 66° Twaddell, twenty-five pounds, the latter being gradu-. ally added to the former at a temperature between 125° to 150°, and the whole stirred constantly until the mixture has a pasty consistence. It is then transferred to a cooling frame, perfumed with attar of bitter almonds, and then left for several days to set and ripen. [Pg.678]
