TSILs in Supported Synthesis

This is especially important in those cases where the catalyst has to be used in quite substantial amounts, as in the above-discussed (5)-proline-catalyzed asymmetric aldol reactions, where the catalyst is usually used at 30 mol.%.  

In addition, efficient recycling of IL-supported catalysts has suggested the possibility of applying the same approach in metal-catalyzed reactions, where the reuse of expensive ligands, metal, or both may be critical. 

In 2003, Guillemine and Yao reported in two independent papers the synthesis of IL-supported catalysts for ring-closing metathesis, whereas a IL-supported palladium complex was found to catalyze the Heck reactions with good recyclability of up to ten cycles.  

ILs can also be used as soluble supports for combinatorial synthesis, which initially was applied for the preparation of a small library of 4-ihiazolidinoncs
