Tripodal MeC

The tripodal MeC(CH2SeR)3 (R = Me or Ph) are obtained readily from RSeLi with MeC(CH2Br)3 in thf.37 The other tri- and tetra-dentates MeSe(CH2)2Se(CH2)2SeMe,44 MeSe(CH2)3Se(CH2)3SeMe37 and MeSe(CH2)2. Se(CH2)3Se(CH2)2SeMe45 require the Se to be introduced stepwise.

Two related tripodal triphosphide ligands have been isolated as their lithium or sodium derivatives. The compound MeC(CH2PPh2)3 reacts with elemental lithium to yield the triphosphide [( MeC(CH2PPh)3 Li(THF)2 2 Li(pmdeta) ] after recrystallization... 

Although M=N bonds are well known, the first two examples of M=P bonds were only recently reported, with M = Mo,76 W.77 There are a number of ligands that are made up of several Group 15 atoms, such as the P3 unit found, for example, in complexes such as (10-LIII) and (10-LIV) where L represents a tripod ligand such as MeC(CH2PPh2)3 or NCQEUPPhj) ,. The P4 molecule itself is known to act as a uni- or bidentate ligand. 

Reactions of monochloro complexes of zirconium and hafnium stabilized by tripodal trianionic ligands (such as MeC(CH2NR)3 , HC(SiMe2NR)3 - and MeSi(SiMe2 NR)3 ) with the late transition metal organometallic complexes K[CpM(CO)2] (M = Fe, Ru) gives heterodinuclear complexes with unbridged metal-metal bonds. These het-erobimetallic complexes react with, for example, methyliso-cyanide to yield insertion products (Scheme 6). ...
