Trilayer method

A test method to evaluate the shear stress capability of a seal material is reported [36], An electrolyte-anode-electrolyte trilayer was glass sealed to two metal interconnect plates as shown in Figure 5.11. Shear testing was done in two different modes, constant loading rate and constant displacement rate, to determine the shear modulus and viscosity. [Pg.232]

We found how Tc can be calculated using an extension of the numerical method of Fominov et al. [25, 29] This method was originally proposed to calculate Tc of the F/S bilayer structures. Its extension to the case of an F/S/F trilayer in the P configuration is straightforward, but application to... [Pg.165]

The symmetry of fs enables utilization of the method of Fominov et al. [25, 29] The trilayer is now equivalent to a bilayer with S layer of effective thickness = ds/2, and, after some algebra, it is possible to reduce (6) to an effective counterpart of the condition (7)... [Pg.167]

Electropolymerization represents a useful method to control precisely the deposition of thin films of conducting polymers. These thin films have a wide variety of applications in optical devices [29]. Walder and coworkers showed that photocurrents could be generated using a trilayer thin film. The three different electropolymerized polymers were cleverly prepared from a common precursor, 4-methyl-4 -(2-pyrrolyl-1 -ethyl)-2,2 -bipyridine 7 two were alkylated, diquat derivatives and one was the Ru metal complex of this ligand, which acted as a sensitizer. The appropriate ordering of the triad in terms of their redox potentials led to the maximizing of the photocurrent (Scheme 7.2) [30],... [Pg.245]

The method of manipulating these ultrathin trilayer solid-fluid-solid films is likely to depend on the final application of the film. These films could find application as a method of testing the mechanical properties of the thin solid layers [12, 38]. Furthermore, the creation of regular corrugated structures could lead to optical applications, such as diffraction grating or optical sensors [12]. However, the unique feature of these ultrathin solid-fluid-solid films (over other thin-film systems) is the final structures that consist of isolated pockets of fluid. It would, therefore, be highly desirable to exhibit some control over these pockets and guide the structures to form ordered channels of fluid. [Pg.243]

The method is very powerful and submicron structures down to 0.5 pm have been shown. However the process is complex and thus expensive, while the yield is relatively low. A lot of effort is currently being put into reducing the complexity, the aim being to develop a bilayer system which includes all the advantages of the trilayer system. This system is discussed in the next section. [Pg.98]

The behavior of Ar on graphite has also been simulated through MD methods [218,327] for temperatures fi om 50 K, where the films are completely solid, up to 110 K, where the films are completely Uquid. Both monolayer and trilayer films were considered, and computer simulation results indicated that melting occurs layer-by-layer, the melting transition for the monolayer being of first order. [Pg.498]
