Trifluoromethoxy radical

Trifluoromethyl hypofluorite, CF3OF, the first organic hypofluorite, reacts as if the O-F bond is homolyzed to the trifluoromethoxy radical and a fluorine radical in many reactions, but it has been used effectively as a selective electrophilic fluorination reagent in organic chemistry. It has limited selectivity as a fluorination reagent in inorganic chemistry bnt it can be oxidatively added to numerous compounds. 

The potential importance of the trifluoromethoxy radical to atmospheric chemical process was recognized by Francisco and Williams in 1984 [132]. Later, the potential role was amplified by its proposed formation from the degradation of alternative halocarbons [133]. The major production route of the CF3O radical from alternative halocarbons is from the release of the trifluoromethyl group (CF3). As mesogenic groups, 4 -trifluoromethoxy-azobenzene units are used and linked to the methacrylate main chain by alkylene spacer, where the number n of the spacer groups was varied from 2 to 6.
