Interestingly, reaction of aryl halides with long chain Q ,allylpalladium intermediates, which are trapped by nucleophiles. Treatment of 3-iodopyridine (362) with 1,12-trideca-diene (363) in the presence of amine 364 produced a mixture of 365 (62 %) and 366 (13 %). The reaction took 4 days showing that the elimination and readdition of H-Pd-X occurred back and forth many times along the long carbon chain, and was terminated by the formation of the 7r-allylpalladium intermediate [145],... [Pg.159]

The early Escherunoser-Stork results indicated, that stereoselective cyclizations may be achieved, if monocyclic olefins with 1,5-polyene side chains are used as substrates in acid treatment. This assumption has now been justified by many syntheses of polycyclic systems. A typical example synthesis is given with the last reaction. The cyclization of a trideca-3,7-dien-11-ynyl cyclopentenol leads in 70% yield to a 17-acetyl A-norsteroid with correct stereochemistry at all ring junctions. Ozonolysis of ring A and aldol condensation gave dl-progesterone (M.B. Gravestock, 1978 see p. 279f.). [Pg.91]

The oxidation of oxepins generally results in cleavage of the ring. An exception is the bridged oxepin derivative diethyl 3,6-hexanooxepin-4,5-dicarboxylate which is oxidized with potassium permanganate in the presence of potassium carbonate to give diethyl 8-hydroxy-9-oxo-10-oxabicyclo[6.3.2]trideca-l(ll),12-diene-12,13-dicarboxylate in 39% yield (mp 98 C).130... [Pg.36]

The silica gel column was eluted starting with hexane (70 mL), followed by 2% ethyl acetate/hexane (100 mL) 5% ethyl acetate/hexane (100 mL) 10% ethyl acetate/hexane (600 mL). The fractions were monitored with 20% ethyl acetate/hexane, using silicon 7 GF plates (purchased from Analtech, Inc.), thickness 250 xm, 20 cm long x 5 cm wide. The plates were sprayed with 3% ceric sulfate and heated at 350°C to detect dienone and monoenone. Alternatively, silica gel 60 F-254 plates (purchased from EM Laboratories, Inc.), thickness 25 mm, 20 cm long x 5 cm wide may be used. Detection may be made with ultraviolet light. The ratio of 1 g of crude dienone to 15 g of silica gel is adequate for obtaining pure spiro[5.7]trideca-l,4-dien 3 one. [Pg.67]
