The two accessible spin-allowed ligand field bands occur at essentially the same frequency both in solution and for the solid complex (as determined from diffuse reflectance spectral measurements). Thus the solid complex is also correctly formulated as [V(i-PrOH)4Cl2]Cl. The magnetic moment of the crystalline material is 2.71 B.M. at 300°K and falls to 2.50 B.M. at 80°K, as expected, for an octahedrally coordinated vanadium(III) species with nonequivalent ligands.4 [Pg.179]
