Transform functional group interchange

Functional group interchange transforms (FGI) frequently are employed to allow simplifying skeletal disconnections. The examples 9 => 10 and 11 => 12 + 13, in which the initial FGI transform plays a critical role, typify such processes. 

A metathesis reaction is defined as a chemical transformation in which atoms from different functional groups interchange with one another, resulting in the redistribution of functionality yielding similar bonding patterns for both molecules [6]. 

Such a systematic review is especially useful since a knowledge of the functional group transformation is essential in retrosynthetic analysis. In the so-called transform -based strategy functional group interchanges (or interconversions FGI) or functional group transpositions (FGT) are applied to simplify a target molecule and one has to look for synthetic reactions which allow these transformations to perform. 

Single group transforms which modify only a functional group (functional group interchange), e.g. oxidation transform. 

Apply stereoselective transforms to clear stereocenters by removal or interchange of functional groups with the establishment of the retron for a disconnective transform, especially with retrosynthetic generation of the core groups C=C, C=0 or C=N.
