Training active learners

The University of Nottingham report also stated that instructional and training materials that have good potential for engineering training often fail to achieve that potential (Churchill and Snowden 1996). Many studies have shown that it is far more effective to focus on one or two issues that have direct relevance for the learners and to encourage active involvement in these issues (Cole and Staff 1988 Halpern 1984). 

Keep the employees involved and active in training. One effective way to learn is by having employee(s) personally instruct each other in a controlled environment. After the initial instruction and practice, the group is divided into teacher/learner teams giving them both a chance to learn (Safety and Health Management - Safety Pays Program, n.d.).
