This issue describes some of the many activities taking place today in the United States to develop measurement systems that will hopefully provide for traceability and or comparability of chemical measurements. Much of the activity is taking place in the private sector where we are seeing multiple approaches to measurement traceability and comparability both in the measurement of chemical quantities and in the production of reference materials.
