Tournefortia sibirica

Tetramethylcyclohexanes.— The derivatives of 1,1,2,3-tetramethylcyclohexane are associated with saffron (the dried stigmas of Crocus sativa), and a new investigation has revealed two new members of the series, some with one carbon atom less. Of those shown below, the first four were synthesized from isophorone (224), which was also found in saffron. Saffron is somewhat similar to Tournefortia sibirica, a perennial of the boraginaceae, which also contains safranol (225). ...
