Touriga Nacional

Touriga Nacional Touriga Franca 40% Boal Codega... [Pg.126]

The wines produced from Touriga Franca are characterized by an intense color (ruby tending to violaceous), associated with a complex, fine, and fruity aromas. Red fruits (such as raspberry and cherry), berries (blackberry), and floral notes are dominant attributes of its aroma. Previous work has shown that wines from Touriga Franca possess a high concentration of free terpenols, but lower than those that characterize Touriga Nacional wine (Oliveira et al., 2006). The wines also possess a light herbaceous taste combined with a full-bodied structure. These wines have fine sensory qualities (Bohm, 2007). [Pg.128]

Source. The pigments were isolated from a two-year-old Port wine (pH 3.6, 18.5% alcohol (v/v), total acidity 6.5 g/L, total SO2 20 mg/L), made from grapes of Touriga Nacional Vitis vinifera) grown in the RegiSo Demarcada do Douro (Northern Portugal). [Pg.161]

For a sample to be representative of a specific region where the variety is grown, it is first necessary to define the minimnm nnmber of mother plants (genotypes) required for the sample, which can be determined through simulation experiments (Martins et al., 1990 Gonsalves and Martins, 2012). Martins et al. (1990) collected an actual oversized sample of 198 mother plants of Touriga Nacional, which were then planted in the field as clones in a completely randomised block design with five replicates and three plants per plot. Yield and other traits were measured. Several subsamples were... [Pg.168]

So when a grower wants to plant a new vineyard with a variety like this, he never exactly will plant the entire variety (with all its diversity and with averages for all traits equal to the overall means) he can only plant a selected part of this variety (one clone, or a combination of clones, that will always be different from the whole population). We mean, the old variety (eg Touriga Nacional) can t really be planted by anyone, consequently it is not a cultivated variety (cultivar). But a clone (or group of clones) selected within the Touriga Nacional (eg Touriga Nacional clone 23 ISA ) may be, so this is the true cultivar. [Pg.179]
