Magnetic moment Total

The muffin-tin potential around each atom in the unit cell has been calculated in the framework of the Local-Spin-Density-Approximation using the ASW method. The ASW method uses the atomic sphere approximation (ASA), i.e. for each atom a sphere radius is chosen such that the sum of the volumes of all the overlapping spheres equals the unit cell volume. The calculation yields the expected ferromagnetic coupling between Cr and Ni. From the self-consistent spin polarized DOS, partial and total magnetic moment per formula unit can be computed. The calculated total magnetic moment is 5.2 pg in agreement with the experimental value (5.3 0.1 e calculations presented here have been performed... [Pg.463]

Associated with the spin of an electron is a magnetic moment, which can be expressed by a quantum number of + or —5. According to the Pauli principle, any two electrons occupying the same orbital must have opposite spins, so the total magnetic moment is zero for any species in which all the electrons are paired. In... [Pg.238]

The increase of the total magnetic moment from USe to UTe is the result of the decrease of spin moment from 5f electrons due to the stronger hybridization effects between U atom and Te atom. [Pg.341]

Two kinds of environmental interactions are commonly important in the ESR spectrum of a free radical (i) To the extent that the unpaired electron has residual, or unquenched, orbital angular momentum, the total magnetic moment is different from the spin-only moment (either larger or smaller,... [Pg.1]

As a result of orbital motion, an additional magnetic effect is produced, and taking it into account leads to the total magnetic moment for one electron,... [Pg.598]

Fig. 22. Experimental points for the magnetic cross section from ferromagnetic PuP at 4.2 K. The solid and dashed curves are the best fits to the data with 5 F and 5 f configurations, respectively. The arrow on the ordinate axis gives the total magnetic moment as determined by magnetization experiments. (Lander and Lam )... Fig. 22. The total magnetic moment can be added up if the populations of the various sublevels are known. Assuming that the spacing of the multiplet levels is large compared to the splitting of the levels of a given J, the mean magnetization can be expressed as... [Pg.293]

Here, T L is the magnetic field strength, and M is the magnetization (total magnetic moment) of the substance. In words ... [Pg.84]

The various values of the total magnetic moment projection m, and the fl2 values determined from H-l n,Sn) HDMR spectra when ij = 5000 Hz... [Pg.296]

We define M = Ksm, where M is the total magnetic moment. Then Equation (14.97) becomes... [Pg.397]
