Tortilla soup

Tortilla Soup One of the most popular Mexican soups. Contains up to 15 different ingredients, of which the main one is fried tortilla strips. Garlic, onion, and tomato are ground into a sauce and diluted and simmered in chicken broth. Salt, peppers, and other seasonings are also added. The soup is reheated, and fried tortilla strips, cheese cubes, and avocado are incorporated onto the top of the mix. 

Healthier and more alkalizing than store-bought tortilla chips, this tasty alternative can be eaten on its own as a snack or as an accompaniment to soup, salad, or chili. Serve with Salsa Fresca (page 151), Avocado Salsa (page 151), Guacamole (page 152), or Hummus (page 152).
