Titanyl sulfate

The undissolved soHds are removed and the Hquid is evaporated under vacuum and cooled. The precipitated FeSO 7H20 is filtered and the filtrate concentrated to ca 230 g/L. Heating to 90°C hydroly2es titanyl sulfate to insoluble titanyl hydroxide. [Pg.97]

OC-Hydroxycarboxylic Acid Complexes. Water-soluble titanium lactate complexes can be prepared by reactions of an aqueous solution of a titanium salt, such as TiCl, titanyl sulfate, or titanyl nitrate, with calcium, strontium, or barium lactate. The insoluble metal sulfate is filtered off and the filtrate neutralized using an alkaline metal hydroxide or carbonate, ammonium hydroxide, amine, or alkanolamine (78,79). Similar solutions of titanium lactate, malate, tartrate, and citrate can be produced by hydrolyzation of titanium salts, such as TiCl, in strongly (>pH 10) alkaline water isolation of the... [Pg.145]

Similar complexes are formed between poly(viayl alcohol) and titanium lactate (96,101), titanyl sulfate (102), or vanadyl compounds (103). [Pg.481]

Titanyl sulfate (Ti0S04.2H20) [13825-74-6] M 160.0. Dissolved in water, filtered and crystd three times from boiling 45% H2SO4, washing with EtOH to remove excess acid, then with Et20. Air dried for several hours, then oven dried at 105-110°. [Hixson and Fredrickson Ind Eng Chem 37 678 7945.]... [Pg.485]

Silica has been used both as a core and shell material. For example, monodis-persed silica spheres were coated with titania by decomposing titanyl sulfate, TiOS04, in acidic solutions at 90°C (146). The particles so produced showed good hiding power, to be useful as paper whiteners (147). Due to the uniformity of the cores and shells, the optical properties of such dispersions were predictable and reproducible, as shown in Figure 1.1.22, which compares the scattering coefficient,... [Pg.30]

Monk-Irwin An unsuccessful predecessor of the Sulfate process for making titanium dioxide pigment from ilmenite. Invented by C.R. Whittemore at McGill University, Montreal, in the early 1920s and subsequently developed by J. Irwin and R.H. Monk in Canada and B. Laporte Limited in Luton, UK. Ilmenite from the deposit at Ivry, Quebec was reduced by heating with coke, leached with ferric chloride solution, and then roasted with a mixture of sulfuric acid and sodium sulfate. The resulting cake, containing titanyl sulfate, was dissolved in water and hydrolyzed, and the titania hydrate calcined. Some of the product was extended with barium sulfate. The project was abandoned in 1928. [Pg.243]

Suppose an ore containing 24.3% Ti by mass is digested with an 80% H2SO4 solution, supplied in 50% excess of the amount needed to convert all the ilmenite to titanyl sulfate and all the ferric oxide to ferric sulfate [Fe2(S04)3]. Further suppose that 89% of the ilmenite actually decomposes. Calculate the masses (kg) of ore and 80% sulfuric acid solution that must be fed to produce 1000 kg of pureTi02. [Pg.172]

From Isopropoxide in the Presence of H2SO4 310 cm of concentrated II2SO4 was added to 1095 cm of water. After cooling, 1065 g of titanium isopropoxide was added with agitation, and the temperature was kept below 60°C. Isopropanol was distilled out under vacuum, and titanyl sulfate was hydrolyzed. Then the product of hydrolysis was calcined. [Pg.494]

Ti(SO )2 3 H20 has been described, but its existence is doubtful. The basic sulfate, 2Ti02-3S03-3 H20, and the titanyl sulfate, TiOSO, are definite compounds related to the normal titanic sulfate. [Pg.147]

Detection and Determination of Hydrogen Peroxide. Titanyl sulfate solution (30) was used for qualitative detection of hydrogen peroxide. Control measurements showed that the sensitivity limit was 1 X lO M. lodometry with starch indicator was also used to detect hydrogen peroxide. Kolthoff s (17) procedure was followed strictly with respect to the exclusion of air oxidation and correction for blank. [Pg.188]

Titania is also produced by reacting ilmenite FeTiOs with sulfuric acid at 150-180°C to form titanyl sulfate, TiOS04 ... [Pg.353]

Titanyl sulfate is soluble in water and can be separated from undissolved impurities and the precipitated iron sulfate by filtration. Hydrolyzing at 90 C causes the hydroxide TiO(OH)2 to precipitate ... [Pg.353]
