Tile Council of America

The Tile Council of America publishes The Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation which is an excellent guide for both ceramic and quarry tile. It is an ANSI standard. 

The Tile Council of America developed a simple impregnation method (41). Ceramic tiles are preheated to 150 °C under a vacuum of about 30 inches of mercury. The tiles are immersed in liquid sulfur, and impregnation is completed in several minutes. Kakos and Fitzgerald (41) report that orthorhombic sulfur allotropes are preferred. The basic classes of ceramic tiles, as defined by the Tile Council of America, are Wall Tiles, Glazed Floor Tiles, Unglazed Floor Tiles and Ceramic Mosaic Tile. The minerals used in the manufacture of ceramic tiles exhibit the entire range of properties and usefulness that exemplify the reasons for their use in almost all fields of ceramics.
