The production of natural camphor and camphor oils was formerly several thousand of tons per year, but has declined as a result of the production of synthetic camphor. The same is true for the distillation of linalool-containing camphor oils (Ho oil. Ho leaf oil), which are derived from other varieties of the camphor tree. 

The sequences of several other tRNA molecules were determined a short time later, thousands of sequences are now known. The striking finding is that all of them can be arranged in a clover leaf pattern in which about half the residues are base-paired (Figure 30.3). Hence, tRNA molecules have many common structural features. It was not until the late 18th and early 19th centuries that an analytical investigation of the active components of medicinal plants and herbal remedies was pursued. This resulted in the discovery of alkaloids such as atropine, morphine, codeine, and papaverine, which eventually became the major constituents of many modem analgesic and cardiac medicines. The discovery of aspirin (from Willow bark), the cannabinoids (from cannabis sct- ya), and digitalis (from foxglove leaf) also came many years, in some cases thousands of years, after these remedies were being used for pain relief, sedation, and dropsy (5-9).
