Thiobacillus electron transport

The chemolithotropic bacterium Thiobacillus ferrooxidans is able to oxidize soluble iron(II) aerobically. The energy released is utilized to produce ATP by oxidative phosphorylation [104]. One of the participating electron-carriers is the small blue protein rusticyanin [105,106].
