Thermoplastics human behavior

By far the biggest disadvantage of using thermoplastics has to do with human behavior. People often say one thing about plastics, but their actions around plashes tell a different story. [Pg.54]

An alternative method is to approach this task on a holistic level. This method involves a more human approach, based not just on the history of our species as users of materials, but also on an appreciation of the unique characteristics of thermoplastics, as well as an understanding of their behavior and performance as they are used in the world around us. [Pg.141]

Finally, use your imagination. As we have discussed throughout this book, thermoplastics are unique materials, with unique properties, and unique behaviors. Humans have been working with metals for hundreds of years, yet we have been working with plastics for less than a century. If we are to use them effectively, we need to use our imagination. [Pg.198]

Regardless of the actual response, the important thing to remember is that all sensory input results in a response, and that material selection can influence that response. We will discuss some of those influences later in this chapter. Thermoplastic materials offer unique opportunities to affect human response—not just because of their unique behavior, but also because of the capabilities to modify and enhance various properties through the use of additives. We can modify a thermoplastic material to do almost anything, and many of those modifications can also enhance a desired human response. [Pg.260]
