Theoretical estimates of heavy flavour production

The production of heavy flavours is a classical process in QCD and is linked with jet physics (Chapters 24, 25). Here, we limit ourselves to a few qualitative considerations. 

Note the peculiar feature that 2.3 times the lowest order result (LO) is remarkably close to the higher order one (LO-I-NLO). This so-called RT-factor also shows up in the Drell-Yan process (see Section 17.4).
