The x 2, 3 Anions

The series E(NSO)2 (39a-c E=S, Se, Te) exhibit planar, acyclic structures with a cis arrangement about the two S=N bonds. The central E-N bonds are essentially single bonds. The S=N bond distances fall in the double bond range with a significant shortening of this bond along the series. 

In contrast to the behaviour of 39a, the acyclic Te(IV) compound Cl2Te(N-SO)2 can be isolated from the reaction of 39c with Cl2 under mild conditions.119 Subsequent reaction of Cl2Te(NSO)2 with Cl2 generates the tricyclic compound Cl6Te2N2S (43).
