The Two Phases of Self-Replication

The SSR replication process has two main phases—the cloning phase (illustrated in figure 9.2) and the division phase (illustrated in figure 9.3). 

The behavior of the SSR, including basic support functions and the two replication phases, can be outlined as follows  

The original SSR contents are now at, for example, the north pole of the SSR enclosure. 

The cloned SSR contents (the nascent daughter SSR) are now at the south pole of the SSR enclosure. 

The SSR enclosure and its content now divide at the equatorial plane and the separate mother SSR (at north) and daughter SSR (at south) emerge.
