The Multiple-Choice Section

These are the three types of multiple-choice questions you ll encounter in the Writing section  [Pg.12]


Section I, the multiple-choice section, is machine graded. Each question has five answers to choose from. Remember, there is a penalty for guessing A of a point is taken off for each wrong answer. A student generally needs to correctly answer 50% to 60% of the multiple-choice questions to obtain a 3 on the exam. Each answer in Section II, the free-response section, is read several times by different chemistry instructors who pay great attention to consistency in grading. [Pg.22]

A. Except in certain special cases explained later in this book, you should not guess. There is a penalty for guessing on the multiple-choice section of the exam. As for the free-response section, it simply comes down to whether you know the material or not. [Pg.23]

This is where fuzzy math comes into play. The composite score for the AP Chemistry exam is 150. The free-response section represents 50% of this score, which equals 75 points. The multiple-choice section makes up 50% of the composite score, which equals 75 points. [Pg.6]

Your total composite score for the exam is found by adding the value from the multiple-choice section to the score from the essay section and rounding that sum to the nearest whole number. [Pg.7]

The biggest change to the new SAT is the addition of a Writing section however, all of the material in this section isn t entirely new. The Writing section has three parts the first two are multiple choice, and the last is essay writing.
