Textile reinforcing materials

Textile fabrics are commonly used in the rubber industry as reinforcement for tires, various types of belts and hose, and many other rubber product applications. 

In the early part of the twentieth century, only cotton was used. However, with the development of new synthetic fabrics, very little cotton is used today because of the superior properties of these synthetic fabrics.

Polyester has the right combination of physical properties and price to allow it to be the highest volume textile reinforcement material used in the rubber industry. 

Textiles are among the oldest materials known to humankind. In addition to their initial use as apparel, they were used in several early structural materials. Composite structures made from cotton fabric and phenolic resins were developed in the early 1900s. Since then, the importance of textile-reinforced materials has grown, and textiles now play a crucial role in many engineering materials including polymers, ceramics, and metals. 

The interleaf-repressing effect of textile-reinforced materials is tested according to DIN ISO 16935.
