An improved synthesis of 1,4,5,8-tetrathianaphthalene, valuable for the preparation of superconductors, has been described <97SYN617>. The tetraanionic species derived from tetrathiatetralin by reaction with LDA in Et20 reacts with both dimethyl disulfide and diselenide to give the tetrasubstituted product. However, in THF rearrangement to a tetrathiafulvalene occurs <97LA729>.
