Tetrakis propanenitrile platinum II Trifluoromethanesulfonate

The [Pt(C2HsCN)J(S03CF3)2 is readily soluble in dichloromethane, chloroform, propanenitrile, nitromethane, ethanol, and water. In the latter case a light blue coloration of the solution is observed within 1 h after dissolution. The compound is sparingly soluble in diethyl ether and toluene and insoluble in hexane. The melting point in a capillary is 17S°C. IR spectrum in Nujol, cm 2334 v(CN). NMR spectrum in CD2CI2 (99.6 + atom % D) 3, ppm 1.41 [t, Jhh = 7.5 Hz, CH3], 3.30 [q, Jhh = 7.5 Hz, CH2]. [Pg.282]

Dimethyl sulfide (0.32 mL, 4.40 mmol) is added to a 30-mL beaker containing a solution of 0.52 g (0.73 mmol) of [Pt(C2H5CN)4D(S03CF3)2 in 5mL of dichloromethane. A colorless precipitate of the desired compound is formed immediately. Diethyl ether (5 mL) is added to the reaction mixture and the solid is filtered off, washed on a filter twice with 2 mL of (C2Hs)20, and dried in air at 20-25°C. Yield of [Pt (CH3)2S 4](S03CF3)2 is 0.49 g (91%, based on Pt). [Pg.282]

The same method as that described for the preparation of [Pt (CH3)2S 4]-(S03CFj)2 is used for the synthesis of tetrakis(l,4-oxathiane)platinum(II) trifluoromethanesulfonate, [Pt S(C2H4)20 4](S03CF3 2, and bis(l,4-dithiane)-platinum(II) trifluoromethanesulfonate, [Pt(S(C2H4)2S 2](S03CF3)2.
