Template-driven Structure Generation

Crooks et al. reported oxidation-driven structural conversion of quasi-aUoy PdAu dendrimer-encapsulated nanoparticles to a Au-core/Pd-sheU configuration. The six generation of poly(amidoamine) dendrimer was used as a template for synthesis of the initial quasi-alloy by cocomplexation of correspondent metal ions, PdCl4 and AuCU. Exposure to air resulted in selective reoxidation of the Pd atoms, and subsequent rereduction led to deposition of a Pd-rich shell on the surface of the remaining Au core (Fig. 6.17). [Pg.180]
