Tartaric acid, formation constants with

In common with other hydroxy organic acids, tartaric acid complexes many metal ions. Formation constants for tartaric acid chelates with various metal ions are as follows Ca, 2.9 Cu, 3.2 Mg, 1.4 and Zn, 2.7 (68). In aqueous solution, tartaric acid can be mildly corrosive toward carbon steels, but under normal conditions it is noncorrosive to stainless steels (Table 9) (27). [Pg.525]

Tartaric acid is dibasic (H2tart), carboxyl protons being ionized by pH 5. The hydroxyl groups are not ionized (p/Ca3 14 and pK 15.6).622 The formation constants of ( + )-,(-)-, ( )- and meso-tartaric acids with V02+ confirm binuclear complexes of optically active and, to a lesser extent, meso acids with V02+.623... [Pg.519]

The formation constant, /3, for Ga -bipy complex is almost independent of [H ], but for the analogous phen species, /3i, and 2 increase at lower [H ], probably owing to the formation of mixed hydroxoamine complexes." Mixed complexes of Ga" with bipy or phen have been detected for a variety of acido-ligands (anions of oxalic, tartaric, or malonic acids etc.). ... [Pg.132]

Lin and Bear report a pressure-jump investigation of the formation of magnesium oxalate in water. Rate constants and activation parameters are quoted and discussed in terms of the normal mechanism. The vanadyl-tartaric acid and nickel(ii)-8-hydroxyquinoline and -8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulphonate systems are also reported. An n.m.r. study involving the reaction of with Mn +, Fe +, Co +, and Ni + suggests that the mechanism involves several parallel pathways. ... [Pg.221]

A number of simple carboxylic acids are known to be produced within the body, and so can be classed as endogenous ligands. Diacids such as fumaric, succinic, and malic acid are constantly synthesized and metabolized in cells during the Krebs cycle, whereas formic, oxahc, lactic, glutaric, and tartaric acid also play significant roles in biological processes (amino acids are discussed in Section 4.3). These endogenous linkers can be considered edible and have been extensively employed in MOF assembly—both transition metal and lanthanide formates with extended structures are commonplace, as well as... [Pg.162]
