Tannic Acid TS Dissolve 1 g of tannic acid (tannin) in 1 mL of alcohol, and add water to make 10 mL. Prepare this solution fresh. 

Mix 2 drops 5 per cent tannic acid (tannin) solution with 2 drops 20 per cent silver nitrate solution, and place the mixture upon drop-reaction paper or upon a little cotton wool. Hold the paper in the vapour produced by heating an ammonium salt with sodium hydroxide solution. A black stain is formed on the paper or upon the cotton wool. The test is a sensitive one. 

To Obtain Gallic Acid firom Tannin. Add a strong aqueous solution of tannic acid (tannin) to sulphuric acid, as lung as a precipitate i s collect tho powder, wash, and dissolve it by the aid of heat in diluted sulphuric acid boil for a few minutes, cool, and collect the crystals of gallic acid which will form in considerable quantity. 

Electrolyte composition was 80 to 85 g/L lead and 45 to 50 g/L free sulfamic add (HNH2SO3). One to two grams per litre of tannic acid (tannin) was also nsed as a smoothing agent. Current densities used were around 90 amps/m, and it was found that as the current density increased to lOOamps/m or above there was an increasing degree of decomposition of snlfamic acid.
