Almost all living creatures require oxygen to act as the ultimate electron acceptor in a series of chemical reactions. In these, oxygen is reduced to the level of water and the bond energy of the substrates thus concommi-tandy oxidized is liberated. Oxygen is able to perform these functions because it can be progressively oxidized by successive one-electron additions, but it is this property that provides the basis for the toxicity associated...

II est possible aussi de calcuier a Faide de ka le temps pendant lequel une molecule reste fibre . Pour que notre theorie ne contienne pas de contradictions internes, il faut que ce temps soit assez long par rapport au temps de relaxation de la molecule fibre. Ceci est effective-ment toujours le cas. Ainsi, pour Fheptanol a 20°C, le temps pendant lequel la molecule est fibre est de 3,2.10 10 sec, tandis que son temps de relaxation est de 4.10 12 sec. Dans d autres cas, le rapport est du m6me ordre de grandeur.
