The extracts of T. affinis, T. arborea, T. divaricata, T. heyrteana, and T. pandacaqui showed some degree of antitumor activity, whereas the extracts of T. malaccensis, T. dichotoma, and T. crassa exhibited hypotensive effects (9). Conofoline has also been isolated from another Malaysian Tabernaemontana species (71 peduncularis) under the name pedunculine (341) as well as from T. bovim (342). The former plant also furnished another bisindole alkaloid, peduncularidine (552), which shares the common oxygenated tabersonine- S-epoxide moiety of conofoline, but differs in the second unit which is now an opened form of (-)-mehranine, with a trans diol functionality at positions 14 and 15. The stereochemistry at C(14 ) and C(15 ) was determined from the ROESY spectrum which showed correlations between the axial H(2 ) and H(17 ) with H(14 ), indicating that the latter has a jS stereochemistry. [Pg.280]
