Systems of silicate melts

Let us consider what happens with the structure when adding another oxide (e.g. MeO) to Si02. The situation can be expressed by the scheme [Pg.101]

In the silicate chemistry, the oxides are divided into three principal groups  [Pg.102]

Another characteristic feature of the silicate melts is the formation of two immiscible liquids in the region of high concentration of Si02. Such a behavior is observed, for example, in the systems of alkali metal silicates and earth alkali metal silicates. [Pg.102]

The chemistry of silicate melts is rather complicated and special monographs devoted to this problem can be found in the literature. Therefore, only the main characterization is presented here. [Pg.102]
