Syntheses of Prepolymers with Functional Groups

Of recent interest is the living cation of tetrahydrofuran. The oxonium ion with suitable counter ions is stable and exists in equilibrium with the monomer47. Bifunctional initiators were found to produce the polytetrahydrofuran dication. 

Linear polysiloxanes containing terminal function groups such as alkoxy groups, chlorine atoms are technically prepared by equilibration of cyclic polysiloxanes with functional silicone compounds291.  

Graft copolymers are usually prepared from copolymers whose backbone attaches functional groups which can be converted into grafting sites. A variety of techniques for synthesizing copolymers with backbone grafts have been investigated294.
