Syntheses involving abstraction of amine and other neutral ligands

3 Syntheses involving abstraction of amine and other neutral ligands [Pg.399]

The synthesis of [PtBr2(NH3)4]Br2 by oxidation with bromine in aqueous solution is seriously handicapped by the formation of a considerable amount of [PtBr(OH)(NH3)4l as a by-pr uct. [Pg.399]

In a modification of the classical Reiset s synthesis, solid [Pt(NH3)4]Cl2 was heated at 190-195 °C in vacuo and found to produce trans-[PtCl2(NH3)2l quantitatively within a reasonable time (ca. 5 h) and without any detectable decomposition to undesirable by-products. [Pg.399]

The reaction of [Pt(py)4]Cl2 with hydrochloric acid proceeds under reflux conditions. The resulting precipitate of fr ns-[PtCl2(py)2l is periodically removed by filtration and this extends the time required for the s)mthesis up to an hour or more. However, on heating solid [Pt(py)4]Cl2-3H20 at 140 C, [Pg.399]

Related trflns-[PtCl2L2] complexes, e,g. where L = N-methylimidazole or thiazole, have been prepared in a similar manner. The structure of the thiazole derivative has been confirmed by X-ray crystallography. [Pg.400]
