Syntheses from the Pre-formed Thiazole Ring.—Large numbers of thiazole derivatives are produced by modifying the substituents in the pre-formed heterocycle (see Table 2 ). 

The preparation of the parent base from the readily accessible 

2-bromothiazole is noteworthy. It is performed nearly quantitatively by electrolytic reduction at -0.7 V (vs. Ag AgC0 in hydrochloric acid. The process is based on the polarographic data concerning halogenothiazoles due to Laviron thiazole shows no polarographic wave in acid solution and is not further reduced under the experimental conditions.
