SYNPHOS and RuBr2 5 -DIFLUORPHOS

6 SYNTHESIS OF IN SITU GENERATED [RuBr2((5)-SYNPHOS)] AND [RuBr2((S)-DIFLUORPHOS)] 

All reactions were carried out under argon in solution in dry solvents. 

The ruthenium catalysts were prepared at room temperature by reaction of [Ru(l,5-cyclooctadiene)(2-methylallyl)2] with ligand P P (1.1 equiv) in acetone (1 mL). Methanolic HBr (2.2 equiv) was added dropwise to the solution which
