Sward rocker hardness

The hardness or resilience of a coating may be desalbed by Sward rocker hardness (ASTM D2134-93,2(X)7). Plate glass has a hardness of 1(X), and a thin film of poly(vinyl acetate) has a hardness of 63 (Feller, 1971b). Sward hardness is partly correlated with the glass transition temperature, but it cannot be nsed reliably to compare coatings of widely differing types (Sato, 1984). [Pg.46]

Hardness. Hardness has been studied by Pencil Hardness (ASTM D3363-74) and Rocker (Sward) Hardness Test (ASTM D2134-66). Coatings with thickness of about 1.5 mils have been used for Pencil Hardness. Slightly thicker coatings with thickness in the range of 1.5-1.8 mils are used for Rocker Hardness Test. [Pg.202]

Coatings from these mixtures are unaifected by water, but they pit and discolor in ethyl acetate and crack in acetone. Their hardness, as measured by a Sward rocker, is much higher than the alkyd of a 40-60% blend of the alkyd and PMS. [Pg.34]

Hardness may also be measured by the number of bounces of a ball or the extent of rocking by a Sward hardness rocker. Abrasion resistance may be measured by the loss in weight caused by the rubbing of the wheels of a Tabor abrader (ASTM-D-1044). [Pg.477]

All coatings have good adhesion of 4B. The hardness is also good. Pencil hardness is H and Rocker Sward hardness is 42. Both adhesion and... [Pg.85]
