Sustainability aspects of using geotextiles

Loughborough University, Loughborough, Leicestershire, United Kingdonn [Pg.577]

Although many definitions and elements of sustainability exist, the use of CO2 emissions has been recognised in international treaties and national and international policies therefore, CO2 is often used as a marker of sustainability of a project. Moreover, there is a need for this simplification of the assessment of sustainability to encourage comparisons to be carried out and increase the accessibility, transparency, repeatability and rigour of sustainability assessment. Embodied carbon (EC) is employed in the remainder of this chapter as an indicator of the sustainability of an engineered system. [Pg.578]
