With the outbreak of the war, work was immediately commenced on producing a prototype Supermarine Spitfire cockpit and fuselage out of Gordon Aerolite (Fig. 13.2). In the event, although a replacement for aluminum was not required for the Spitfire, some 30 Miles Magister tailplanes were produced out of Gordon Aerolite.
