Sulfur nuclear properties

Low sulfur and ash levels are required for high GTE, isotropic cokes used for carbon and graphite specialty products. Highly isotropic cokes are also the filler materials for producing graphite for nuclear reactors. The purity, particularly the boron content, is critical in this appHcation. Properties of typical needle and isotropic (regular) cokes are summarized in Table 1. [Pg.498]

In addition to the standard constraints introduced previously, structural constraints obtainable from the effects of the paramagnetic center(s) on the NMR properties of the nuclei of the protein can be used (24, 103). In iron-sulfur proteins, both nuclear relaxation rates and hyperfine shifts can be employed for this purpose. The paramagnetic enhancement of nuclear relaxation rates [Eqs. (1) and (2)] depends on the sixth power of the nucleus-metal distance (note that this is analogous to the case of NOEs, where there is a dependence on the sixth power of the nucleus-nucleus distance). It is thus possible to estimate such distances from nuclear relaxation rate measurements, which can be converted into upper (and lower) distance limits. When there is more than one metal ion, the individual contributions of all metal ions must be summed up (101, 104-108). If all the metal ions are equivalent (as in reduced HiPIPs), the global paramagnetic contribution to the 7th nuclear relaxation rate is given by... [Pg.267]

Chemical Properties. Compound 2 is readily decarbonylated upon exposure to UV irradiation.5 Irradiated solutions of 2 readily yield addition products of sulfur containing small molecules such as COS, CS2, and H2S. In the absence of reagents it will form the hexanuclear compound Os6(CO)17(/r4-S)2. It reacts with other metal complexes to form higher nuclearity osmium clusters and heteronuclear metal cluster compounds.5,11,12... [Pg.306]

The simplest substances are the elements. They cannot be broken down into simpler constituents by chemical reactions. Ninety-two elements exist in nature although some additional ones can be created experimentally by the techniques of nuclear physics, they exist only for very short periods of time before decaying radioactively. The elements can be arranged in basic groupings based on their properties a fundamental division is into metals (e.g. iron, copper, gold, sodium) and nonmetals (e.g. carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, sulfur). [Pg.11]
