Succinic acid stereochemistry

Deuterium ( H) is the stable isotope of hydrogen. It may be analysed for by mass spectrometry and also by the absence of signals in proton n.m.r. spectra. Most recently deuterium has been analysed for directly by n.m.r. spectroscopy [7]. A particular method of analysis (Section 4.4) involves the measurement of optical activity in deuteriated succinic acid samples as a means of probing the stereochemistry of a biosynthetic sequence [18]. [Pg.23]
