The dyes used on wool can be divided into the following groups acid dyes, chrome dyes, premetallized dyes and reactive dyes (88,89,92—94,97—99). Strictly speaking, all types of wool dyestuffs can be described as acid dyes, but in practice this term is confined to leveling acid dyes, half-milling dyes, milling dyes, and supermilling dyes (94,97). This subclassification of acid dyes arises out of the methods used for their appHcation and their fastness properties on wool. [Pg.347]

Peracid Classification. Peracids can be broadly classified into organic and inorganic peracids, based on standard nomenclature. The limited number of inorganic peracids has required no subclassification scheme (4). However, the tremendous number of new organic peracids developed (85) has resulted in proposals for classification. Eor example, a classification scheme based on Hquid chromatography retention times and critical miceUization constants (CMC) of the parent acids has been proposed (89). Because of the previous inaccurate botanical determination of the Madagascan periwinkle, the alkaloids of this plant were formerly considered as Vinca alkaloids, an erroneous subclassification for alkaloids isolated from a plant belonging to the genus Catharanthus. It also should be noted that the alkaloids of C. roseus containing two different (most commonly indole and dihydroindole) alkaloid building blocks were, and sometimes still are, referred to as dimeric indole alkaloids.
