Structural during formic acid oxidation

Briggs and Cambie had already shown that an acidic product, reported by Robertson and coworkers as being formed during the periodate oxidation of vitexin, is, in fact, formic acid (characterized as the /S-benzylthio-uronium salt), but the proportions formed were stated to be small and were thought to arise from over-oxidation. Rao and Venkateswarlu do not share this view they believe that their results point to the presence of a —CHOH—CHOH—CHOH— system in vitexin. This led them to propose the C-glycosyl structure (34) for vitexin, and, since the periodate... [Pg.248]
