The ideal arrangement is to back the vehicle up to a door with a sealing collar, so that the contents may move directly into the store without exposure to ambient temperatures. If the height differs from that in the store, adjustable platforms are fitted at the door. Where fork-lift trucks have to pass in and out of a cold store, plastic strip curtains are used (see Figure 20.2). [Pg.210]

DOWNSTAIRS, THE HOUSE was stripped bare, and at dinner there was just Harford and Aislabie, who occupied my father s old place at the head of the table. He wore a lilac waistcoat and an amethyst jewel in his neck pin, his eyes flashed iridescent as his silks, and he was in an expansive mood. Mrs. Gill, perhaps in defiance of the London cook, had produced a fricassee of duck along with a fowl and a side of beef, which my husband sliced with his usual neat enthusiasm. He exploded in and out of my consciousness, so that I caught only fragments of what he said, but I was transfixed by the bloody liquid that dripped from his fork and puddled under the meat. [Pg.144]

Fig. 11.17 Topoisomerase 1 Allows Strain Relief Ahead of the Replication Fork. Prokaryotic chromosomes are Mobius strips. Topoisomerase 11 creates gates by nicking both strands of the dsDNA, allowing helices to cross one another (Fig 11.18). Tangles and linked loops can therefore be separated. It also forms part of the eukaryotic nuclear scaffold, for similar reasons. Fig. 11.17 Topoisomerase 1 Allows Strain Relief Ahead of the Replication Fork. Prokaryotic chromosomes are Mobius strips. The Xylonite Company simply cut the paper into long strips, and introduce it into the mixed acids by means of forks. The arrangement used by this Company for holding the mixed acids is a cylindrical vessel divided into a number of sections, the whole revolving like a turntable, thus allowing the workman to nitrate... [Pg.44]

It reduces the problems of forking as experienced with other common test-pieces such as parallel tensile strip, pure shear and trouser tear. [Pg.192]

Fig. 15.27. Extensograph (according to Rohrlich and Thomas, 1967). The cylindrical piece of dough (7) is fixed by dough clamps (3) and placed on the balance fork (2). The motor (4) of the stretching unit (5) is then started. The arm moves downward into the dough and extends it at constant speed. Simultaneously, the forces opposing the stretching action are transmitted through the lever system (6) io the balance system (7). This is coupled to a recording arm of the strip chart recorder (8). The fork of the balance system is coupled to an oil damper (9) to reduce the recoil... Fig. 15.27. Extensograph (according to Rohrlich and Thomas, 1967).
