Stirring and Digging

An antidote to most things, for most people, is to get outside and dig a hole, or plant a tree, or ride a horse, or walk your dog, or stir your compost bin, etc. 

Add the 1-methylimidazole (1-MeIm) (0.4 mmol) and DIG (0.4 mmol) and stir at room temperature under inert atmosphere for 2 min see Note 19).

When the crucible is cool, fill it with water and let it set for a few hours before digging out the contents. This will give the water enough time to dissolve a lot of the purer potassium carbonate hidden in the carbon. When the caked mass can be dumped out of the crucible, put it in two quarts of water and mash and stir it so the potassium carbonate dissolves completely.

The behaviour exhibited by some materials of becoming more fluid when allowed to stand and less fluid when stirred dilatancy is shown by some ceramic bodies that are deficient in fine (<2 j,m) particles, (cf rheopexy and thixotropy).
